About
Natalie Binetter is an emerging Sydney-based artist.
She works primarily as a painter, using oils and acrylics to render a variety of subjects that vary from highly representational to abstraction.
In her abstract works, Natalie investigates a playful dynamic between colour and space.
Her current creative focus revolves around the concept of imagined landscapes. Her formal studies of both Art and Psychology, as well as journeys of self-introspection drive her to create theatrical spaces of personal reflection.
Inspired by the aesthetics of the Sublime, the psychological exploration of Surrealism and Roland Barthes’s 1967 essay ‘Death of The Author’, these imagined exteriors act as tools to explore one’s own complex interior.
She brings a staged sensibility to the dreamlike spaces she creates, purposefully imbuing the works with a sense of ambiguous narrative, temporal liminality, and a void, that is at times uncomfortable, as grounds for subjective interpretation and inner exploration.
